6.2 Quest vWorkspace Linux AppPortal Beta 1

Providing support for many client platforms to enable the “any device scenario” is a key part of the strategy here at Quest.  To that end we are continuously updating our clients to make sure that our customers have other client platform options when they decide not to use Windows and that they have a full feature set when doing so.

This new (6.2) Quest vWorkspace Linux AppPortal has several enhancements, most of which pertain to the installation and configuration of the client. Additionally, several issues were resolved.  This is sample of the current feature set of the Linux AppPortal:

  • Application publishing
  • Desktop publishing
  • Mapping of local drives (supported via the native rdesktop)
  • Mapping of local audio
  • NAT for firewall traversal
  • RDP over SSL
  • Window size and colors
  • Local COM ports
  • RDP printers
  • Multimedia Redirection
  • Graphics Acceleration
  • Secure Ticketing

Next Beta or RTM versions of the 6.2 vWorkspace Client  are planned to include support for Flash Redirection as well as Bi-Directional audio.

Beta 1 of the 6.2 Quest vWorkspace Linux AppPortal can be downloaded by anyone from the download area of vWorkspace.com. Please email us with any feedback you might have.

So far, I have had a great amount of difficulty getting the usb redirect module to build on Ubuntu 9.10… Has anyone had success with this, and if so, what did you do to get the module to build? There appears to be little documentation on this release, so I am at a loss.

Brendan, we were successful in getting the app to compile but, are having issues getting the rdesktop session to run. We get an rdesktop error each time. We are in the process of compiling full step-by-step documentation on the process since it does not seem to be published anywhere. Will be glad to share when we resolve the issues.
